The path of surrender is what a seeker needs to take on his final way home. The starting point of a seeker is the small "i" the ego i where much is based on the thinking mind which decides much of the seeker’s activity, words and actions. This "i" if left unchecked will balloon into a huge monster that will be difficult to manage later in life. However almost all human beings exist in this state of "i"and that is the root cause of most problems in interpersonal relationships, be it casual, family or spouse. The thinking mind will not allow the other you to get the better of your "i" .
As the seeker journeys on he soon realizes that he is not getting anywhere with this mental attitude. There are just too many obstacles placed in his path. Soon the seeker adjusts his mindset to one of "we". The "we" mindset is an intermediate stage where the seeker accepts that he has a silent partner in life – The Divine who governs and helps him along the way and somehow is the unseen guiding hand that he needs to go through life’s unknown journey. Accepting that the "i" is not the main player in life, the seeker finds life more tolerable and happier when his mindset changes to "we". The seeker begins to engage his Silent Partner in whatever he does and is always mindful of His presence.
However the ultimate realization of a seeker is to accept that he is nothing and that all he has belongs to The Divine. With this realization the seeker begins his final journey on the path of surrender to his ultimate destination – Himself. The path of surrender is not one of inaction but rather one of action but not anticipating or desiring the result of the action. This requires a total change of mindset since in most instances we want everything to go our way. That is not always the case and this is the key to accepting the path of surrender. We do what needs to be done based on the best understanding and knowledge of the situation and then we wait for the outcome to unfold. Whatever the outcome the seeker needs to accept as the best for him although it may not be what he wants. The seeker must not also ask or pray for a specific outcome. Again a mistake most people make. When they have a problem they to God and tell Him how to solve their problem. What arrogance! If that is what you have been doing, change your mindset and accept the path of surrender. Tell Him your problem and just say "God you know what is best for me", then leave it to Him to resolve the issue in whatever way he thinks best for you and thank Him immediately. Then wait for the result to unfold. Accept whatever that unfolds, be it "good" or "bad" for nothing is seen as "bad" in the eyes of God. It is only us human who sees events with myopic vision as good or bad.
It takes time to change the way you think or even the way we pray for help. Think about it for a moment. How do you expect the Divine to help you when you think you know best by telling Him how you want things to unfold for you? Since God lives in us how can He be giving you something which is not good for you when he is giving to Himself for He is the Giver and He is the Receiver of all things. With this complete submission to His Will, the seeker does everything in the name of God and dedicate the fruits of his actions to God. In that state of being, the seeker is able to say “Oh God with absolute and total trust faith and confidence in Thee, I leave myself, all my affairs, my present, my entire future and whole life completely and totally in Thy hands."
In this the final state of Being, the seeker now moves in God and God in him, together yet separate.
Being (Be –in- God).
