When we think of harmony begins at home we think of the house in which you live that you call home. However before you can achieve the harmony with the people that you live with you need to start with another house –your body.
Your body is the dwelling house of three entities, your thinking mind or your ego mind, your intellect, and the Indweller – God or your Divine Self. For most people there is this constant conflict within with any one of the entities. Some even quarrel with God and blame Him for all the bad things that they go through. Most would have constant conflict with the ego, debating what is right or wrong. Who wins would depend on the conscience.
How can you expect to achieve harmony with others when you are in the constant state of disharmony in your own mind. The reason for this conflict is no clarity of thought. When the mind is allowed to debate on yes or no and allowed to be in a constant state of flux, the ego is more than happy to cause this ding dong battle in your mind. Carrying past baggage of hurt is another reason and this is compounded by new hurt feelings which is added on and form a thick layer of mud that you cannot after a while sieve thorough to the root cause of your problem.
The other reason is because of the high pace of life which in society especially in modern society where you are constantly being bombarded with messages on your mobile phone so much so that you are driving your mind like you drive an auto car not knowing how to put to neutral gear, even at a traffic light. Your mind is in a constant state of DRIVE mode, resulting in stress, burn out syndrome that the psychologist is most happy to attend to.
You need to learn how to put your mind on NEUTRAL, like the old days when you had no auto cars but only manual driven cars. Occasionally you would put into neutral gear especially at a traffic light just to rest your legs. This is what you need to do, put your mind into neutral mode and get off the auto mode which drives you.
To achieve this we need to constantly be aware to do this either daily or in between your work breaks at least a couple of times a day. Just let go. Think of something else other than work or work related or family issue. When you can, take a break and listen to music or look at the sky and just take in the vastness of the sky without forming any conclusion of what you see. Do this regularly and you will soon find that your mind will learn to relax and enter into the neutral mode. Meditating on vastness either the sky or the ocean opens up your mind from that tunnel vision to the vastness expanse that is its nature.
Only when you are truly in harmony with yourself that you can be in harmony with the people that you live with and then spread it out to others in your workplace and those whom you meet.
A mind that is always in auto is on the edge ready to explode into anger and ready to hit back at anyone when it reaches breaking point. Never allow yourself to be in that state of mind. Resolve to get back to neutral and allow you the space that you need to energize yourself to be ready for the next challenge ahead. This will prevent the clutter to pile up in your mind that makes up the layers of mud that becomes too thick for you to eventually get rid of. Without the clarity of your thinking nothing will work for you. In that state of confusion everything you do will be wrong because your decision will be clouded by the baggage you carry.
Unload all excess baggage on a daily basis, do not attempt to carry them with you and make it part of your life. Travel light on this journey and free your mind from the clutter that your ego is happy to live with. Allow your intellect to shine through and with your Indweller as your voice of conscience, your life will always be in harmony because you live in harmony with your inner Self.
