TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED

A very common mistake most of us make in many areas of our life. Today we shall go through the various areas where we fail.

  1. Our health
  2. Relationships
  3. Our possessions
  4. Our life

It’s not in order as listed above as it varies from person to person in areas where we take things for granted. So, let’s start with our health. You see most of us think we are superhuman and nothing can go wrong with our health. So, we eat junk food we don’t exercise and we expect our body to take care of itself. Yes, it does by adjusting itself to the bad life style or junk food by reacting in some form of symptom to tell you things are not right. However, if you choose to ignore the symptoms then the course of action is you get down with something that requires you to either rest or hospitalized. So what is the solution?

Get a checkup regularly for early detection for any health, life a healthy life style that is suits you and not someone else’s. This is important as you are happy living your own and not someone else’s lifestyle.

Relationships – this is the one thing that almost everyone is guilty of doing. Let’s ask ourselves who do we hurt the most? The ones closest to us, our parents, our siblings, our close friends is this true? Why is it so? It’s because we let our guards down with the people closest to us. To others we are extra careful in what we say or do, least we offend them but to our love ones we just say and do things as it pleases us. That is totally wrong. We need to be aware and sensitive to feelings of others, close or not close. We need to put ourselves in their shoes when we do or say something. So, the solution is a touch of mindfulness goes a long way.

Possessions are material things that you acquire during your lifetime including your wealth. Firstly, you cannot bring anything with you in the hereafter when you move on. So, you are just a custodian of your material possessions, true? As a custodian you need to take care of it as it will be passed on to someone else when you finish your life assignment. Secondly be thankful to be able to have whatever that’s in your possession.

Life – a fragile moment between inhaling and exhaling. something that we all take for granted. Think for a moment about this statement “a fragile moment between inhaling and exhaling”. If you have seen anyone at the moment of death, you will know that the final exhalation signifies the moment of death – as it’s usually said someone has taken his or her last breath. Life is a gift that we need to cherish and make full use in a way that it enriches our journey and at the same time uplifts others that we come into contact with. Do not waste one life doing nothing to bring you closer to the Truth that you are seeking. I assume since you are on this website, your goal as a seeker is to seek the Truth and as Jesus said, “the Truth shall set you free”. Do good for the sake of doing and not what is demanded of you by the scriptures. That way you get the merit of the good you do. Doing good just because you have been told to do gets you nothing. Buddha in his discourse once said to do good in your life and if there is a heaven you benefit from it with your good deed and if heaven does not exist you can say that you have lived a good life.

Think about that!
