You have heard that life can be described as crossing the ocean of life. So life is compared to the ocean. Look at the ocean from a distance, it looks calm but when you are in the ocean, it can be turbulent. So if you look at the life of a person, you don’t know because you are not that person. Crossing the ocean of life is actually living a life in which you are born into. That means this present life. There are four ways you can cross or live this life. One is you use a Sampan (small boat) and you row the small boat. The second way is you use a Sailing Boat. The third way is you use Speed Boat. The fourth way is you use an Ocean Cruise Liner. Of these four ways which you think is the best way to cross this ocean of life?
The Sailing Boat is the best.
The Sampan (small boat) is you use your own power, “I am crossing this ocean of life on my own.” You are sure to fail because you are using your own power to row and row until you are exhausted. When you get hit by a storm you will surely capsize.
Using the Speed boat is you want to get there very fast but halfway if the motor fails, you are stuck, caught in the middle of the ocean without power.
An ocean liner is the worst, because it is like having herd mentality. You are following where the liner is going. Never cross the ocean of life with a herd mentality. Always use God given intelligence.
So using a Sail Boat is the best because you use nature to help you. You are using God to help you. The wind will carry you across. When you have a problem in life just like when you are in a big ocean wave, you lower down your sail, take stock, you stabilize and when the turbulence is gone you put up your sail and move on. You have a rudder to steer, a sail to control and a compass for direction. The rudder is your faith, the compass is your prayers and the wind which blows your sail is the Power of God.
When you use a Sail Boat, which is the best because when things are beyond you, our Guru said, take stock, unload, salvage what can be salvaged. This is just like lowering down the sail, drop the anchor and wait. When the storm is over, you pull up the anchor, put up sail and then you go on because you have God with you.
With the Sampan (small boat) man thinks there is no God and he is the champion. Speed boat is the fellow who wants to go very fast but the foundation is very weak. Cruise liner is herd mentality, they just follow blindly. So in life, use the Sail Boat because that is going to take you and when you reached the end, you can say “Yes, I have mastered everything, I have now reached the stage where my foundation is very strong. No one can shake me, influence me, no one can influence my thinking. I am with God.”
